with the following complaints on behalf of the inmates involuntarily incarcerated in that facility
Shortly after arriving in the Walworth County Jail facility, inmates report contracting rashes; lip and mouth sores; inflamation and cracking skin on their feet; and other indications of transmission of communicable fungus, infections and other skin and tissue inflamations. Kay has had sores in her mouth and a rash on her stomach and breasts since her arrival. The jail doctor has refused to treat these conditions.
Female prisoners are denied adequate sanitary supplies for menstruation and urinary incontinence. Female prisoners who are incontinent are accused of 'pissing their pants on purpose.'
Underwear that is issued bears odors and stains from previous wearings by other prisoners, spreading vaginal infections and inflamations throughout the female population.
The solitary confinement and intake cells are filthy, with blood (menstrual blood? mestruating prisoners are reportedly not given sanitary supplies) and feces smeared on the rubberized walls. The 'hole' cells contain no mattress or bed, and the only toilet facilities are a hole in the center of the room with a grate over it. This 'toilet' can only be flushed by guards outside the cell which they 'neglect' to do for days at a time.
There are no precautions taken regarding inmates with communicable diseases, including hepatitis. Menstrual blood is evident in the community showers and prisioners express concerns about contamination through the open cracks on their feet.
Kay reports that her eating utensils are not adequately cleaned, that there is often dried food on her plate and silverware.
Perhaps the jail should become the subject of an investigation? The efforts of prisoners to complain about these health issues are blocked. It is up to us on the outside to do something about it.
