ROCKWALL COUNTY Texas JAIL and DA refuse my daughter her prescribed medications and I have personally taken all the medical records and a pharmacy printout of Chanda's medicines.!
My daughter is mentally challenged and is in jail! Along with being mentally challenged is that she has a 3rd grade IQ and lives in a 27 year old body and it is proven that mentally challenged people also have physical health conditions but also we have Lyme Disease.
Please....I need help to make Rockwall County Texas Jail give my daughter her prescription medications? She has been without them near a week and has already had two seizures without her meds and is being punished by the jail for being sick.
My daughter has been on prescribed medications for years as many of them just keep her alive. Chanda got arrested November 21, 03 and she was put in this jail and the jail guards and jail nurse told my daughter that they will never give her these meds.
My daughters name is Chanda Leigh Bennett D.O.B. 11/16/76
Chanda had two seizures and the nurse had her put in seg just because of this!
Later Chanda told the nurse she was sick again and the guard told Chanda if she complained again, she would be kept in seg for the remaining time of months of her incarrasation and they did seg her just for being sick. Chanda's jail time could be a long while because I and all my family are disabled with Lyme Disease and this causes us to be poor now and not have the bond money. Court could be months away.
From the first day Chanda was put in jail, I faxed the nurse and sheriff all of Chanda's medical records and a pharmacy printout ( which below is a study of the prescriptions and she is in danger without these) of her scripts, which states that Chanda is Mild MR, Bipolar, Kidney failure, cirrhosis, and Ischemic Heart Disease and has had a heart attack. I then called the nurse and she said that the jail could not get Chanda her medicines as some of them are vikoden and scolded me that this and her xanax are controlled substances.
Then I was told that Chanda would have to buy her own medicines! I replied to her that due to the new HIPAA Laws, the jail was the only one who could give Chanda her meds but they still refuse.
The nurse checked Chanda's pulse and it was 120 while Chanda was having heart pain but still no help.
I am very worried about Chanda because as I left from visiting her tonight, she was terrified as to what the jail guards was going to punish her with just because she has these health conditions. Chanda has a 3rd grade IQ therefore she is just like a 3rd grader being imprisoned and this seems so wrong!
I sent Chanda's IQ test scores to all this counties leaders and sheriff in hopes they would not punish her for her odd answers to questions but got the opposite.

Punishing a non violent inmate for being sick is bizarre and surely illegal.
Chanda is in jail for changing the amount of pills on a prescription she got from her doc. Chanda was already on probation for a burgulary which was not really a burgulary but court appointed attorneys suck! Chanda has done wrong... I openly admit this truth but it does not call for the jail to abuse her for being mentally challenged and sick.
Another thing I have advocated for 15 years is the mentally retarded being jailed in a jail.
I did call the Jail Commission but it was holidays and only got a recording.
Chanda was given a court appointed attorney named Attorney Sams in Rowlett Texas but she is a typical court appointed attorney!! She actually told me that she agreed with this DA whom of course I already hate! He contributed to my 21 year old son Chip Bennett's death February 5, 2003 and I have an attorney that is possibly willing to take a lawsuit against DA Gaylin Ray Sumrow in Rockwall Texas. Thank God!
Attorney Sams said that Chanda is on too much medication! Who is she to judge and trying to be a doc. Chanda is mild MR, kidney failure, cirrhosis, heart ischemic with a past heart attack and Lyme. Sams also said that the DA has agreed to two years for Chanda in TDCJ and this attorney is ready to sign the deal so she can get her $200.00 and run! Chanda would die in prison from her health and she is just like a 3rd grade child as her IQ is this also. It has always been ridiculous for Texas to send the MR people to jails and prisons. Most of the time when they do wrong things, they do not even realize it is wrong. If anyone has had a 3rd grader, they know what I am saying.
This DA said the same thing about my 21 year old and ordered him off his medicines and my son had an enlarged heart after a few years from removing him from his lifelong blood pressure medicines given to him at birth from Childrens Medical Center in Dallas Texas at his birth. Chip was born absent the Inferior Vena Cava to the heart and kidneys causing him to near have a stroke at birth and the doctors there told us that no one had ever lived without these parts he was missing inside but he had extra parts of other things inside causing other major health problems. All three of my kids had health problems and ...no... I have never done drugs or drink. Both me and my ex have had Lyme Disease since before we had kids.
Due to this Lyme, we have all been very sick. My oldest son has a rare arachnoid brain tumor and he is in Lew Sterrett Jail in Dallas Texas. I suffer physically also but keep a lid on it because I must keep up the advocating for those who can't.
This may sound like my kids are heatherns but they are not. I have a list of people that have left this county and their mortages, etc., to save their children and their lives.
Sorry to talk your ears off! After losing my son in February, I have come unglued about our rotten system. I am not trying to say my grown kids are perfect because they are not and the wrong that was real from them and not the false ones put on them by this DA that hates me because of my advocating, was done by them only because of our financial crisis that is caused from being sick. WE used to all run a business together and worked hard but these past years we have all been sick and can't work. The things they actually did wrong, was never known by anyone.

This below is a short research I did on only three of Chanda's prescribed medications
( she takes many more) that she has been refused by Rockwall County Texas Jail. The jail told us that Chanda or us would have to pay for Chanda to have her needed medications. She has already had two seizures and they put Chanda in seg for punishment for having the seizures. I had a friend to call the jail and ask why they put her in seg for being sick and their reply was that they did not put her in seg for being sick but put her where they could watch her closer. They lied because they told me they would seg her again if she did this again. Chanda's heart was hurting also and she has had a heart attack in the past therefore the nurse checked her pulse and it was 120 and the nurse told her this is normal. This is not normal!

Phenobarbital may be habit forming.
Abrupt withdrawal of phenytoin in epileptic patients may precipitate status epilepticus. When, in the judgment of the clinician, the need for dosage reduction, discontinuation, or substitution of alternative antiepileptic medication arises, this should be done gradually. However, in the event of an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction, rapid substitution of alternative therapy may be necessary. In this case, alternative therapy should be an antiepileptic drug not belonging to the hydantoin chemical class.
There have been a number of reports suggesting a relationship between phenytoin and the development of lymphadenopathy (local or generalized) including benign lymph node hyperplasia, pseudolymphoma, lymphoma, and Hodgkin's Disease. Although a cause and effect relationship has not been established, the occurrence of lymphadenopathy indicates the need to differentiate such a condition from other types of lymph node pathology. Lymph node involvement may occur with or without symptoms and signs resembling serum sickness, e.g. fever, rash and liver involvement.
In all cases of lymphadenopathy, follow-up observation for an extended period is indicated and every effort should be made to achieve seizure control using alternative antiepileptic drugs.
